H.E. Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met this afternoon with Mr. Mohammed Abdiker, Chief of Staff of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), accompanied by his delegation.
The meeting aimed to improve the delivery of services and humanitarian assistance to returnees. During the discussion, Mr. Mohammed Abdiker commended the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan for its continued efforts in managing and addressing the needs of returnees.
He also praised the work of the designated committees operating under the framework of the High Commission for Migrant Affairs for their effective service delivery across various sectors and their provision of humanitarian assistance. He affirmed that the IOM remains fully committed to supporting and cooperating with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to assist returnees.
Mr. Abdiker further highlighted the organization's efforts to safeguard the rights and well-being of returnees in coordination with host countries. He added that the IOM, in collaboration with other international partners, is working to identify the skills of returnees in order to create employment opportunities and deliver additional support.
In response, H.E. Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi welcomed the IOM delegation and expressed appreciation for their humanitarian efforts and the ongoing cooperation of IOM teams in addressing the needs of returnees.
He noted that, despite the rise in deportations of Afghan nationals from neighboring countries, the situation remains under full control. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan continues to take proactive measures to address the challenges faced by returnees, and the support of both the public and private sectors in this effort is sincerely appreciated.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the increase in staffing, tents, transport vehicles, warehouses, and other essential resources provided by the relevant agencies, emphasizing that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will spare no effort in delivering services to returnees.
He further underscored the importance of creating employment opportunities for returnees and urged host countries and international organizations to take meaningful steps to ensure the protection of their rights.
