In the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Al-Haj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed today at the Government Media and Information Center between the Ministry of Water and Energy and Azizi Energy Private Company. The agreement pertains to the production, transmission, and distribution of 10,000 megawatts of electricity through a $10 billion investment.
During the ceremony, the Director General of Azizi Energy Private Company, Mr. Mirwais Azizi, stated that, with the cooperation and support of the Islamic Emirate, the company maintains a strong commitment and firm determination toward this investment, and that practical work will commence as of tomorrow.
Azizi Energy Private Company will produce 10,000 megawatts of electricity across various regions of the country utilizing gas, coal, hydro, wind, and solar resources. Consequently, Afghanistan is projected to achieve full self-sufficiency in electricity production within a period of seven to ten years and will be positioned to export electricity to foreign countries. Of the total 10,000 megawatts, 4,000 megawatts will be allocated for public use and 6,000 megawatts for industrial factories. This is expected to facilitate the establishment of thousands of new factories, create employment opportunities for millions of Afghans, and substantially strengthen the national economy.
Following the signing of the memorandum, on the next day, 3rd of August, technical teams from the Ministry of Water and Energy and Azizi Energy Private Company will conduct site visits to the relevant areas. Surveys will be concluded within ten days, and project designs will be prepared over the subsequent six months. After this six-month period, the first phase of practical work aimed at producing between 2,000 and 3,000 megawatts of electricity will be initiated.
