Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs bids farewell to UN Special Representative for Afghanistan

The Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, His Excellency, Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, held a farewell meeting with Roza Otunbayeva, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Otunbayeva praised the cooperation of Islamic Emirate officials with the UN office in distributing aid to those in need and in strengthening coordination between the two sides. She said that throughout her three-year mission, she had good memories of Afghanistan and its people.

The UN Special Representative also noted the continuation of humanitarian assistance from the organization to the Afghan people, particularly to returnees and those affected by the recent earthquake in Kunar province. She emphasized that UN officials are working to provide more support to both returnees and earthquake victims.

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Development Affairs, Indrika Ratwatte, said the organization has so far delivered significant assistance to those affected by the earthquake in Kunar. He stressed that with the winter season approaching, urgent measures are needed to provide shelter.

His Excellency, Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi while appreciating Otunbayeva’s service in Afghanistan, wished her success and said many Afghans remain in need of humanitarian aid, which requires attention from responsible international institutions.

He also highlighted services provided by the Islamic Emirate to returnees in various areas and urged international organizations to continue their cooperation with them.
