The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Al-Haj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, conducted an official visit to the Baku International Sea Port in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs conducted a detailed inspection of the port’s infrastructure and transportation processes, and formally requested Azerbaijani officials to facilitate the export of Afghan goods via this corridor.
The visit was attended by representatives from the Baku International Sea Port and the national railway authorities, who affirmed that the port; situated along the Lapis Lazuli Corridor; is prepared to support the export of Afghanistan’s industrial products, agricultural commodities, and mineral resources to Turkey and Europe. They further conveyed their readiness to transport Afghan commercial goods to the Russian Federation by rail transit through the territory of Iran.
During the engagement, both parties agreed to establish joint technical committees tasked with evaluating the existing logistical infrastructure and transport routes associated with the port, with the objective of advancing bilateral trade and transit cooperation and enhancing Afghanistan’s export capacity.
The Baku International Sea Port currently possesses an annual handling capacity of 15 million tons of cargo, with expansion plans aiming to increase this capacity to 25 million tons.
