Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Meets with UNICEF Deputy Executive Director for Humanitarian Action and Supply Operations

H.E. Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, held a meeting with Mr. Ted Chaiban, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director for Humanitarian Action and Supply Operations, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Mr. Chaiban expressed appreciation for the positive steps taken by the Islamic Emirate and emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between UNICEF and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

He highlighted UNICEF’s strategic development plan for Afghanistan, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to supporting the local economy and promoting domestic production, while also aiming to reduce the use of products that contribute to child malnutrition.

Mr. Chaiban reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to supporting both the education sector and returnees, highlighting the organization’s focus on expanding economic programs. He also emphasized the importance of creating sustainable employment opportunities for returnees.

The Deputy Prime Minister extended a warm welcome to Mr. Chaiban and his delegation, acknowledging UNICEF’s ongoing support for the Afghan people, especially its assistance to refugees deported from neighboring countries.

He underscored the recent rise in the number of returnees and outlined the comprehensive measures undertaken by the Islamic Emirate to address their needs. In this context, he urged UNICEF and other pertinent international organizations to prioritize the sustainable, long-term resettlement of returnees and to vigorously advocate for the protection and promotion of their rights within host countries.
