Deputy Prime Minister Inaugurates First Phase of Refugee Township in Helmand

H.E. Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, inaugurated the first phase of a refugee township in the Washir district of Helmand Province during an official visit. He was accompanied by Mawlawi Hamdullah Nomani, Acting Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Mawlawi Mohammad Nabi Hamas, Deputy Governor of Helmand, provincial officials, religious scholars, national businessmen, and local residents.

At the ceremony, The Deputy Prime Minister stated that Afghans migrated to defend their faith and homeland, and now, through their sacrifices and Allah’s grace, an independent Islamic system governs the country, with leaders focused on improving economic, educational, and health services.

He added that the Commission for Addressing Refugee Issues is providing urgent services to returnees, with six subcommittees focused on reintegration, employment, permanent settlement, and housing.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the initial phase of the large-scale refugee township in Helmand is underway, featuring essential infrastructure and services, and will be allocated to eligible returnees in accordance with a comprehensive urban development plan.

The township will span 10,000 jeribs in the Shorab plains of Washir district, with the first phase covering 5,000 jeribs and featuring 3 large mosques, 18 smaller mosques, 5 hospitals, marketplaces, and other essential facilities.
